Introduction to Information Technology: Defining IT, Information Processing Cycle, Information systems and data, IT in Business and Industry, IT in Society, The State of IT Careers, Anatomy of a computer

Representing numbers and Text in Binary: Binary numbers, Binary Code, Representing Text and other characters in Binary,

Unit-II: Hardware concepts :

Computer organization: CPU, Memory, I/O devices, Communication bus, ports (serial, parallel)

Input devices: Keyboard, mouse, light pen, touch screen, graphic tablets, joystick, Microphone, Scanner, web camera.

Output devices: Monitor/VDU, LCD/LED screen, Printers, Plotter, Speaker.

Memory unit: Memory, types of memory, RAM, ROM, Registers.

Unit-III Software Concept:

System software: Operating systems, need for an operating system, major functions of an operating system, language processors(assembler, interpreter & compiler)

Utility software: Compression tools, disk defragmenter, antivirus.

Application software: General purpose application (word processor, spreadsheet packages, presentation software, DBMS, IDE software) specific purpose application software (inventory management software, human resource management system (HRMS), payroll systems, financial management system, reservation system).

Unit-IV: Introduction to Computer Networking

Network: LAN, MAN, WAN

Internet Architecture: Introduction, Internet History, Internet Architecture Components, Internet Application, Internet Application, internet Open Issues

Unit-V

Definition, e-commerce & its type with benefits, e-business websites & their salient

features & Social impacts, e-business challenges.
